One of the biggest changes you can make in terms of career transition, is moving to another part of the country or the world in order to follow your dream.
Sometimes a move is necessary because the particular career you want can only be carried out in certain locations, or there are parts of the world where vacancies are easier to find.
Transition Coaching
In this scenario, you have two major life changes to cope with - relocation and a new career. Since both of these rank high in terms of stress, you need to do enough research into each to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible.
Get as much information about the new career as you can, if possible, speak to people already doing it. If it is very specialised and only carried out in limited locations, you may need to contact them by phone or internet. However, if it is possible, you should think about visiting the place you intend to move to. this will give you the opportunity to get a feeling for the place, check out things like healthcare, social life and schools if you have children. You can see if you can arrange a meeting with potential employers or preferably do some work shadowing or work experience if you can arrange it.
If you are moving to a country where another language is spoken, you should do your best to learn it before you move, or at least enough to get by in.
Making such a big change will be challenging and so the more preparation you can do the better. However, even if it doesn't work out, you will at least have tried and either way you will be a step closer to discovering what you really want.
