This video displays the events of the 2010 International Sport Connection Soccer Coach Training Course held at Old Kampala Secondary School in Kampala, Uganda in May 2010. Over 180 men and women received coaching certificates at this historic coach training course. Funding for the International Sport Connection comes from the SportsUnited Division of the US State Department. The philosphy and mission of the International Sport Connection comes to life in this short film. ISC Philosophy: The International Sport Connection (ISC) is founded upon the belief that, by its very nature, sport brings people together and can be a powerful way to encourage friendship and mutual appreciation among individuals, tribes, and nations. We believe that appreciation for others, or conversely, disdain for others, is learned during childhood, and that these attitudes are usually learned through contact with influential adults. Coaches can play a particularly influential role in the lives of children, especially for children in challenging circumstances, who are in greater need of consistent contact with a caring adult mentor. The success of a coach is not measured solely by wins and losses, but by the influence that a coach has in preparing children and youth for future responsibilities. To be a complete coach, men and women must possess the knowledge, skills, and motivation to effectively teach, train, manage, and mentor children and youth.
