SEVEN times ASP Women's World Champion Layne Beachley has played host to eleven of Australia's next up and coming female junior surfing talents , with her national development camp being held at Surfing Australia's High Performance Centre (HPC) at Casuarina, NSW. All participants who attended this exclusive camp had the privilege of rubbing shoulders with the queen of surfing, as she took time out of her busy schedule to surf, train and mentor the athletes chosen for this unique opportunity. Participants were hand selected by their respective state branches to attend the all expenses paid five day camp which was a scholarship initiative designed by Surfing Australia, the Australian Sports Commission and the Illicit Drugs In Sport program (IDIS). The High Performance camp was created with the aim of developing Australia's best up and coming junior female surfers to help them make a smooth transition into becoming a professional athlete. "The great thing about the High Performance camps is that the participants are identified as future champions," said Beachley. "The kids are brought into this environment with like minded athletes in a very safe, controlled and enthusiastic situation and are provided with the knowledge, education platform and of course the resources which the HPC provide.
